Transition to Plastics

René's sons, Jacques and Paul Leclair, joined the business and led the transition from waxed paper to polyethylene — a pivotal shift toward modern flexible packaging.

Expansion & Vertical Integration

In 1970, St. Johns acquired Packaging Industries Ltd. By 1972 the company began extruding its own polyethylene film, marking the start of its vertically integrated manufacturing model.

Entry into Personal Care

In 1987, the acquisition of JT Packaging Ltd. enabled the company to enter the personal care market, opening new opportunities for long-term growth.

Third-Generation Leadership

A third generation of the Leclair family joined the company, continuing the family-owned leadership that remains a defining part of St. Johns Packaging today.

The acquisition of North State Flexibles LLC in Greensboro, North Carolina strengthened our presence in the U.S. bread and personal care markets.

Global Footprint Expansion

2016: a subsidiary established in Vietnam with state-of-the-art printing and converting. 2020: a blown film extrusion plant acquired in Ho Chi Minh City, plus a greenfield operation in Mexico — Embalaje St. Johns.

We acquired the Ilkeston Conversion facility from Amcor Flexibles UK Ltd., reinforcing our position as a leader in bakery packaging across the UK and Europe.

Mexico Dairy Market Expansion

The acquisition of Plásticos Uribe, S.A. de C.V. added a vertically integrated facility in Mexico focused on dairy packaging.

We expanded into Australia through the acquisition of Flexible Packaging Solutions Pty Ltd (FPS) in Brisbane — adding advanced fresh produce capabilities including printed rewind, laser-perforated films, lidding films and pouch formats.
