Our history
René's sons, Jacques and Paul Leclair, joined the business and led the transition from waxed paper to polyethylene — a pivotal shift toward modern flexible packaging.
In 1970, St. Johns acquired Packaging Industries Ltd. By 1972 the company began extruding its own polyethylene film, marking the start of its vertically integrated manufacturing model.
In 1987, the acquisition of JT Packaging Ltd. enabled the company to enter the personal care market, opening new opportunities for long-term growth.
A third generation of the Leclair family joined the company, continuing the family-owned leadership that remains a defining part of St. Johns Packaging today.
Management streamlined the company's product, market and customer focus — strengthening profitability and market position with a strong emphasis on customer service.
A wholly owned, vertically integrated subsidiary built to North American standards, supporting customers through blown film extrusion and finished bag production for export.
The acquisition of North State Flexibles LLC in Greensboro, North Carolina strengthened our presence in the U.S. bread and personal care markets.
2016: a subsidiary established in Vietnam with state-of-the-art printing and converting. 2020: a blown film extrusion plant acquired in Ho Chi Minh City, plus a greenfield operation in Mexico — Embalaje St. Johns.
We acquired the Ilkeston Conversion facility from Amcor Flexibles UK Ltd., reinforcing our position as a leader in bakery packaging across the UK and Europe.
The acquisition of Plásticos Uribe, S.A. de C.V. added a vertically integrated facility in Mexico focused on dairy packaging.
We expanded into Australia through the acquisition of Flexible Packaging Solutions Pty Ltd (FPS) in Brisbane — adding advanced fresh produce capabilities including printed rewind, laser-perforated films, lidding films and pouch formats.
With operations across North America, Europe and Asia Pacific, St. Johns Packaging continues its long-term commitment to innovation, reliability and sustainable growth.
From essential food supply chains to consumer and healthcare applications — dependable performance, responsive service and long-term partnership.
